TENNIS.
The Mount Gambier Table Tennis Association concluded it’s Spring Season
last week with finals in all grades.
The Div.One final turned out
to be a close, exciting match between the Dad’s Army of Col Hutchesson, Lynda
McPharlin and Garry Fox and the JarJars trio of Rob Attiwill, Aaron Jellesma
and Julie Robinson. This was a match that was expected to be decided by the
doubles rubbers. However despite JarJars winning both doubles, Garry Fox
starred for Dads Army, winning 3 singles and guiding his team to a nail biting
6-5 result.
The Div. Two final between
the Two and a Half team of Jon Aston, Ben Rowe and James Beal and the Batmen
trio of Daniel McPharlin, Steven Maynard and Justin Hutchesson was expected to
be a close hard fought affair and this proved to be the case. Jon Aston stood
out for his team winning all 3 singles, however the Batmen won both doubles
rubbers to scrape home over their opponents by the narrowest of margins 6-5.
The Div. Three encounter
continued the finals trend with the match between the Crows team of Michael
Maynard, Kyle Newlyn and Rayelene Flynn and the Home Brand trio of Michael
Hole, Michael Millhouse and Dylan Marshall being a close hard fought match
throughout. Michael Hole showed his improvement as a member of the junior
coaching squad by winning his 3 singles and helping his team to a close 6-5
victory.
In the Junior grade finals, the
Div. One final saw the Rockers team of Ryan Lockwood, Kane Branstone and Robert
Ware defeat the Jetfighters combination of Chris Cappelleri, Frances Touzel and
Ryan Judd by the close margin of 5-4. Chris Cappelleri winning all 3 singles
for the losers.
The Div.Two final was taken
out by the Smashers team of Alanna Guthridge and Peter Ware who defeated the
Rockets duo of Bianca Terry and Jesse Watson 5 rubbers to 4.
