Good Standard of play in
Summer Season Finals.
The Mount Gambier
Table Tennis Summer Season came to a close last week with finals in all grades.
In A grade, the Class Act team of Nigel Wittwer, Kym Muller and Steve
Maynard proved to be too steady for the Wam trio of
Robert Attiwill, Lynda McPharlin
and Geoff Ward. Leading from the front, Wittwer won
all 3 singles, and with solid performances from his team mates, ended up with a
6-4 win.
B1 grade turned out to be a hard fought affair with many close 5 set matches.
Jon Aston winning 3 singles, backed up by Peter Cotton and Michael Hole took
the Fireballers team to a 7-4 victory over the Haybails team of Nick Aston, Matt Bailey and Tim Pilven.
In B2 grade, the Right Handers team of
Paul Cotton, David Cotton and Jordan Aston had taken all before them all season
and were strong favourites to win. However the Mikyme
combination of Mick Maynard, Kyle Newlyn and Melissa Lucas showed their finals
experience to take out the match 6-5. Maynard leading from
the front winning 3 singles.
The C grade final produced an exciting
contest with the Pain Dealers team of Coehen Keppels, Scott Fartch and Zachary
Comey just scraping in for a 6-5 win over the Kool Kids combination of Chris Cappelleri,
Ryan Judd and Shaun Phillips. Keppels maintained his
unbeaten run for the season, and is in line for promotion to a higher grade
next season.
The Junior 1 final went as expected with the Red
team of Patrick Glynn, Riley Glynn and Bianca Terry triumphing over the Green
team of Matthew Walmsley/Pace, Catherine and Daniel McGlone by 7 rubbers to 2. Patrick Glynn
winning 3 singles.
The Junior 2 final consisted of a play off
between the season’s most games won players. This resulted in a win for Phoebe
Aston with Gavin May 2nd and Ellen Beal 3rd.
Nominations are
coming in fast for the next season starting on April 29th.
