TABLE
TENNIS.
The Winter season takes a break this week with the staging of
the club closed championships. Entries for all events are high, with many good
standard matches expected. The Men’s Open singles, with current holder Graeme
Shelton a doubtful starter, should be wide open with Dipaka
Sealetsa a slight favourite. However, any one of four
other players could win this prestigious event. The current Women’s singles
champion Lynda McPharlin, despite a recent slump in
form, is still the one to beat with Katrina McPhee
being the most likely challenger. The Junior Boys title should be between James
Gurry and Ben Rowe with Sarah Pilven
favourite to win the Junior Girls crown. Minor round
matches will be played between Tuesday to Thursday
with all finals played on Friday evening.
