Club Championships 2010

15 year old Gurry takes out title.

15 year old James Gurry won a staggering six trophies last week when the MTG Table Tennis Club held their Club Championships. Gurry started Friday night’s finals session by taking former multi Club Champ, Graeme Shelton in four sets, and finishing the night winning the Men’s Open Singles in three, against the only person to win against him in the regular season this year, Rob Attiwill. Attiwill struggled to dent the form of Gurry, that saw Gurry take home the winning trophy in every event he played in on Friday night. During the night Gurry also won the U/15 Boys Singles, U/18 Boys Singles, U/18 Boys Doubles (with Ronald Reid), and Open Men’s Doubles (with Rob Attiwill).

Sirinat Sweet won the Open Ladies Singles in four sets against Sarah Pilven in a tightly contested final. Sarah Pilven also tasted success in the U18 Girls final earlier in the night winning against a galent Naomi Dow in 3.

Overall we saw a group of our younger members emerge & take their place the senior group competing & win events across the week, in particular James Gurry who has had a standout year.Well done to James Gurry & all involved in the Club Champions of 2010.
